Warship and Captain Skill System[edit]
Warships on New Hope UO are equipped with advanced ship-to-ship combat mechanics, ammunition management, and a custom Captain Skill leveling system.
1. Captain Skill System[edit]
- Levels: 1 to 10. Levels increase as Captain XP is earned.
- XP Sources:
- Sailing: +1 XP per relocation step.
- Firing a cannon: +20 XP.
- Sinking a hostile warship: +10,000 to +50,000 XP (based on ship size).
- Captain Bonuses:
- +5% Cannon Damage per level above Level 1 (Max +45% at Level 10).
- +5% Damage Reduction (Resistance) per level above Level 1 (Max +45% at Level 10).
2. Cannon Firing and Ammunition[edit]
- Ammunition Storage: Galleons have a built-in ammo storage capacity of 500 (StoredAmmo).
- Ammunition Enforcement: Firing a cannon checks for resources in the player's pack, the ship's ammo storage, or the cargo hold (GalleonHold). If gunpowder, cannonballs, and fuses are missing, the cannon cannot fire.
- Auto-Reload: Firing cannons from the ship control pad automatically reloads them if empty and resources are available in the backpack or ship storage.
3. Boarding Rope[edit]
- Boarding Mechanic: If a hostile ship's durability drops below 33%, players can use a Boarding Rope to teleport themselves and their pets directly onto the enemy deck.
4. Spyglass Tracking[edit]
- Scanning: Players can use a Spyglass to scan for ships 50-80 tiles away. Upon detection, it creates a Quest Arrow pointing directly to the target ship.
5. Ship-to-Ship Damage Reduction[edit]
- Combat Protection: Damage dealt between different ships (player-to-player or player-to-creature) is reduced to 10%. Players must board the same ship to deal 100% full damage.
6. Deep-Sea Pirate Warship Patrols & Dread Pirate Captain[edit]
Three named Crimson Pirate Warships (50,000 Hull HP, Hue 1157) actively patrol Hopelands' major sea corridors:
| Pirate Warship | Patrol Corridor | Crew & Boss |
|---|---|---|
| The Blood Marauder | Northern Ocean (Stonemark – Ashford Corridor) | Dread Pirate Captain (4,000–5,000 HP) + 3 Pirate Crew Members + Broadside Cannons |
| The Crimson Scourge | Eastern Deep Channel (Valdris – Aethermoor) | Dread Pirate Captain (4,000–5,000 HP) + 3 Pirate Crew Members + Broadside Cannons |
| The Dread Corsair | Eastern Deep Ocean (Open Sea Basin, East of Valdris) | Dread Pirate Captain (4,000–5,000 HP) + 3 Pirate Crew Members + Broadside Cannons |
- Combat & Rewards: Pirate warships automatically engage nearby player vessels with broadside cannon fire. Slaying the Dread Pirate Captain (105–120 Swords/Fencing/Tactics, Always Murderer) awards SuperBoss Loot, cleans up remaining deck crew, and triggers the sinking sequence of the pirate vessel, granting Captain XP and a Sunk Ship Loot Chest.
