Races and Gargoyles
Races & Gargoyle Systems[edit]
New Hope Shard supports the three default Ultima Online races: Human, Elf, and Gargoyle. Each race has unique passive attributes, equipment styles, and mechanics.
1. Race Comparison[edit]
| Race | Passive Abilities | Mounting & Travel |
|---|---|---|
| Human | Increased carrying capacity, passive health regeneration, and the ability to perform basic skill actions even without training (Jack of all Trades). | Can ride all standard horses, ostards, llamas, and swamp dragons. |
| Elf | Higher maximum mana (+20 Mana), increased chance of harvesting special resources (gemstones/ore), and passive night sight. | Can ride all standard mounts, including Elven-exclusive chargers. |
| Gargoyle | Passive health, mana, and stamina regeneration bonuses. Increased armor rating (AR) when not wearing full armor. | Cannot ride standard mounts. Instead, they use wings to Fly (gaining mount-equivalent travel speed). |
2. Gargoyle Mechanics & Customizations[edit]
To provide a smooth gameplay experience on our server, we have customized Gargoyle interactions:
- Flying in Dungeons: Unlike standard servers where Gargoyles cannot fly in dungeons, New Hope Shard allows Gargoyles to activate their wings and fly freely within dungeon regions.
- Woodcutting with Axes: Gargoyles can use human/elf axes directly from their backpack to chop wood, bypassing the default requirement of equipping them.
- Alter Item Function: Gargoyles cannot wear human/elf armor or hold standard weapons. Players with Blacksmithing, Tailoring, Carpentry, or Tinkering skills can use the Alter Item option in their crafting menus to convert human/elf gear into Gargish equivalents.
