Races & Gargoyle Systems[edit]

New Hope Shard supports the three default Ultima Online races: Human, Elf, and Gargoyle. Each race has unique passive attributes, equipment styles, and mechanics.

1. Race Comparison[edit]

Race Passive Abilities Mounting & Travel
Human Increased carrying capacity, passive health regeneration, and the ability to perform basic skill actions even without training (Jack of all Trades). Can ride all standard horses, ostards, llamas, and swamp dragons.
Elf Higher maximum mana (+20 Mana), increased chance of harvesting special resources (gemstones/ore), and passive night sight. Can ride all standard mounts, including Elven-exclusive chargers.
Gargoyle Passive health, mana, and stamina regeneration bonuses. Increased armor rating (AR) when not wearing full armor. Cannot ride standard mounts. Instead, they use wings to Fly (gaining mount-equivalent travel speed).

2. Gargoyle Mechanics & Customizations[edit]

To provide a smooth gameplay experience on our server, we have customized Gargoyle interactions:

  • Flying in Dungeons: Unlike standard servers where Gargoyles cannot fly in dungeons, New Hope Shard allows Gargoyles to activate their wings and fly freely within dungeon regions.
  • Woodcutting with Axes: Gargoyles can use human/elf axes directly from their backpack to chop wood, bypassing the default requirement of equipping them.
  • Alter Item Function: Gargoyles cannot wear human/elf armor or hold standard weapons. Players with Blacksmithing, Tailoring, Carpentry, or Tinkering skills can use the Alter Item option in their crafting menus to convert human/elf gear into Gargish equivalents.
